Position
Robert is a highly experienced partner in the banking team. Rob advises on a range of banking, finance transactions and on insolvency matters related to lending. Robert advises on preparation and negotiation of loan facility and security documentation, priority arrangements and insolvency issues. Robert also acts for several Welsh housing associations on their borrowing requirements, both by way of substantial bank loans and note purchases.
Robert advises a number of banks, such as Metro Bank RBS, Lloyds and other major lenders on loan facilities. Robert is part of a team that consistently wins national contracts. These include advice on commercial loan agreements and debt finance transactions from credit sanctions to completion. He works with this team to advise the majority of clearing banks in Wales on high value and/or complex commercial loans in areas ranging from acquisition finance to renewable energy finance. Robert also acts for non-high street banks, working with our commercial property team on a range of real estate finance matters including development loans, commercial real estate lending and hotel and leisure sector lending.
Robert also advises the Welsh Rugby Union on their own loan facilities, facilities to members, on the arranging the incorporation and asset transfer of the WRU member clubs.
Robert has been on secondments to Barclays Bank and The Welsh Rugby Union. During critical or intense stages of a project, providing a secondee from our core team can assist in reducing costs and ensuring progress is maintained. Robert has been a valuable secondee to both Barclays Bank and the Welsh Rugby Union ensuring that issues were dealt with ‘at the coal face’.

Trained Phillips & Buck, Cardiff (now Eversheds) 1986-99; qualified 1988; Hugh James 1999 to date; partner Hugh James 2005; secondments to Barclays Bank and Welsh Rugby Union.
