Position

Matthew has a wealth of experience in all areas of employment law both litigation and advisory. Matthew provides commercial solutions for employers with particular experience of large scale TUPE transfers in both the private and public sectors; restructures; employment tribunal litigation and High Court injunctions.

Matthew writes and presents frequently on employment law issues providing updates and training to clients.

He recognised by both Chambers and Legal 500 as a leader in his field.

Matthew joined Howes Percival in 2017 as a Partner having previous headed teams in the Eastern Region. In addition to his employment practice, he is also a school governor and trustee of an independent school and a member of the advisory board to a regional theatre company.

Howes Percival LLP's employment practice continued to grow its profile in both Norwich and Cambridge last year. Leading light Matthew Potter leads the practice from Cambridge and his varied caseload from 2017 included defending an injunction in the High Court arising from restrictive covenants, which settled after a preliminary hearing; pursuing and employment tribunal  on behalf of national employer; complex TUPE litigation arising from failure to provide accurate employee information; defending complex discrimination claims on behalf of employers; advising on restructures and changes to term and conditions; and assisting with senior executive exits. Oyster Marine and EMCOR (UK) Group plc are among his clients. Associate Nicola Butterworth in Norwich has 15 years' experience in employment and HR matters, most notably in the leisure and tourism, and energy sectors. She advised the family shareholders of Aspall Cyder Limited on issues arising from its sale to a foreign company.
