When it decided to open its office in Lima, in 2014, Garrigues knew that it needed to put together a top-tier team of lawyers to lead the Peruvian practice, bearing in mind the extremely competitive nature of this market and Garrigues' high standards of client service worldwide.

Garrigues' team in Peru now comprises 44 professionals, all highly respected in the Peruvian legal services market and with extensive expertise in the area of international investment.

Chiarella - partner (jose.chiarella@garrigues.com): Jos? advises clients in tax matters relating to domestic and cross-border finance and M&A transactions, tax structuring of major infrastructure and mining investments, and tax advisory to high net worth individuals. Prior to joining Garrigues, he was a partner at the tax department of Rodrigo, Elias & Medrano. He also worked at Arthur Andersen and as a consultant at the Luxembourg office of Ernst & Young.

?lvaro Valle - partner (alvaro.valle@garrigues.com): ?lvaro's practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, joint ventures and commercial contracts, with particular expertise in cross-border transactions. He specializes in the energy sector, with extensive transactional experience and expertise in project development and contracts specific to the industry. Prior to joining the Lima office, he practiced in Spain and worked at the Miami office of Hunton & Williams.

  • CHANGES IN THE REGIME GOVERNING RESTRICTIONS ON VOTING RIGHTS AT SPANISH LISTED COMPANIES

    On June 17, 2010, following a rough and eventful passage through Parliament, the Lower House of the Spanish Parliament finally approved a transcendental amendment to the Spanish Corporations Law (to article 105.2) affecting only listed corporations: a prohibition on voting ceilings for a same shareholder (or companies in the same group), regardless of the number of shares they own.
