Position
Andrew specialises in complex and/or international insurance and reinsurance matters and related broker's professional indemnity claims. He has an Honours degree in Mathematics and Statistics a Master's degree in Operational Research, and has qualified as a barrister and a solicitor. He worked for British Airways, International Insurance Services (IIS), and another law firm, and has been a partner at Holman Fenwick Willan for about 25 years. He led the successful teams in several high profile reinsurance claims, worth $100ms to the market, including the Kuwait invasion aggregation case (Scott v Copenhagen Re), the Exxon Valdez follow settlements case (King v Brandywine), and the 9/11 Twin Towers aggregation case (Heraldglen v AIOI). He also led the defence of some of the biggest broker professional indemnity claims to reach the Courts, including $100m+ cases regarding mortgage endowment mis-selling and energy business interruption losses. His practice covers a broad spectrum of matters ranging from reinsurance defence and collection, complex reinsurance pools, public and products liability insurance, energy (onshore and offshore), financial products mis-selling, financial institutions' liabilities, natural and man-made disasters (California wildfires, Victoria bushfires, WTC, Kuwait, Exxon Valdez), products liability, cargo, jeweller's block and specie, and business interruption claims. He acts in and advises principally on the resolution of disputes and coverage issues, domestic and international, and he advises on policy wordings and related matters.
