Partner, specialising in education work for schools and further education colleges. Principal focus is as Head of Schools within Hill Dickinson’s education sector group, acting as the lead client relationship partner, co-ordinating a cross-departmental team of school specialists acting for maintained, academy and independent schools. The team is very actively involved in academy conversions and the establishment of free schools. David acts for schools in both the independent and maintained sectors on a range of contentious and non-contentious issues including the establishment of academies and free schools, SSEN and disability discrimination tribunals, objections and referrals to the School’s Adjudicator, complaints to the Local Government Ombudsman, judicial reviews of School’s Adjudicators’ determinations, governance advice, re-structuring and disputes, and the like. He has particular expertise in issues relating to faith schools. Clients include The Heath Family (North West) (which includes The Heath School); Innovation Enterprise Academy (which includes Wade Deacon High School); St David’s College; Tauheedul Education Trust (which includes Tauheedul Islam Girls High School and a number of Free Schools); Bright Futures Educational Trust; Education Partnership Trust; Big Schools Trust; King David High School, Manchester; St Margaret’s C of E High School; Durand Academy; Heather Garth Primary School; Oakhill Primary Academy; Darfield Upperwood Primary School and others. David has been a Governor of ST David’s College for over thirty-five years and is a Board Director of a Multi-Academy Trust. Considerable experience in the field of defamation and media management, which expertise he uses regularly in a schools context. Has undertaken in-depth media training and is familiar with responding to and working with journalists from TV, radio and press.
