Career

Amir has international experience in trade and commercial legal matters. His expertise covers areas of regulatory affairs, IP licensing, franchise, and other forms of commercial agreements.

He was appointed in several public posts which gave him unique exposure on investment matters in different sectors and decision-making processes. During his public tenure as Chairman of the Egyptian Competition Authority, Amir advised the cabinet of ministers on a wide variety of matters including trade matters, investment strategies and disputes, and market-opening and infrastructure projects and strategies in the Banking, Oil & Gas, Electricity, Pharmaceutical & Healthcare and Technology & Telecommunication sectors. He advised and represented the Government of Egypt on the structural reform program with the IMF and the World Bank. Amir is among the few Egyptian experts in competition and economic regulation to handle complex merger and acquisition cases and complex economic investigations in nearly all segments of the economy.

He also advised leading digital companies on matters related to compliance with data protection regulations in the MENA region. He has solid experience in advising businesses in Pharmaceutical, Digital and Tech industries. He drafted many laws and regulations affecting business in Egypt including competition law, public procurement, banking, media, and gas laws.

 

Amir taught EU competition law at Queen Mary University in London and has published on European trade and competition matters in leading leading European Academic Journals.

He has successfully litigated landmark cases in the area broadcasting of media rights and digital services. He also advised the Government of Egypt on investment disputes arising out in different economic sectors.
