As Head of the firm’s Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence teams, Andy has over 20 years’ experience of dealing with personal injury and disease litigation claims. He specialises in high value complex cases including brain injury, spinal injury, fatal accident and industrial disease. He was a member of the management committee of the Occupational and Environmental Disease Association from 2005 to 2007, regional chairman for the Midlands region of the Motor Accident Solicitors Society from 2006 until 2012 and has been treasurer of the society since 2012. He is also a member of the Birmingham Medico-Legal Society, The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, a committee member of The Birmingham Law Society Personal Injury Group and is an accredited member of the Law Society Personal Injury panel. Andy is 100% committed to his clients and considered by market commentators as having an excellent knowledge of serious injuries and is very approachable.


Occupational disease claims technician at Zurich from 1998-2001. Trained Higgs LLP 2001; qualified 2003; partner 2009. Regional chairman of the Motor Accident Solicitors Society 2006 to 2012; member of the Management Committee of the Occupational and Environmental Disease Association 2005 to 2007. Under the leadership of Clare Langford, Higgs LLP‘s clinical negligence team is well-regarded for its work on a broad spectrum of high-value and complex clinical negligence claims. It has particular expertise in cases involving serious birth injuries, such as cerebral palsy, in addition to spinal cord injuries, delayed diagnosis and fatal claims. Langford is particularly renowned for her work on cases involving a delay in diagnosing meningitis and loss of vision. Andy Shaw receives plaudits for his expertise in claims involving major trauma such as brain injury, amputation and serious orthopaedic injury, as well as severe psychological cases. Newly-promoted partner Steven Santy specialises in complex and multi-site orthopaedic injury claims, among many others. Claire Burnell was made principal associate in 2021 and the team has also been adding to its ranks with the addition of Charlotte Measures  from Harrison Clark Rickerbys and Sarah Huntbach from Anthony Collins Solicitors LLP.
