Senior Associate, IP and Trademarks Practice
Nikolay specialises in the area of the legal protection of intellectual property: means of identification, copyright, patent rights, and know-how. He has significant experience of protecting intellectual rights before administrative and judicial authorities.
Nikolay has more than 15 years of experience in the area of the legal protection and safeguarding of intellectual rights, including:
- representing clients in courts, including the Russian Supreme Court, the Russian Supreme Commercial Court, and the Intellectual Property Court; participating in more than 400 cases involving disputes concerning the granting, disposal and termination of legal protection of IP items;
- participating in the consideration of disputes concerning the granting and termination of the legal protection of trademarks in his capacity as a member of the Chamber for Patent Disputes of the intellectual property regulator (‘Rospatent’);
- representing clients in disputes concerning the protection of intellectual rights on the Internet, including within the procedure established by the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP).
He has the status of a patent attorney of the Russian Federation. He pursues teaching activity. He has a number of published materials concerning the legal protection of trademarks.
Nikolay has a Ph.D. in Law, and LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Turin University (Italy).
Transactional specialist Valentina Orlova leads the team at Pepeliaev Group, and focuses on advising clients on entry into agreements regarding the use of IP and the disposal of exclusive rights, as well as assisting with e-commerce and advertising matters. For contentious work, senior associate Nikolay Medvedev is the key contact; he has significant experience protecting intellectual property rights before administrative and judicial authorities, including the Supreme Court and the Intellectual Property Court.
