Lawyers focus on asset recovery, commercial and trust litigation, as well as contentious insolvencies, with an impressive client list comprising corporates, trustees, beneficiaries, high-net-worth individuals and governments. Founding partner Stephen Baker has developed a niche in the interaction between civil and criminal law in fraud cases, as well as his main practice, which involves trust and commercial litigation. Simon Thomas is an external crown advocate, and is frequently instructed by the Jersey attorney general in criminal cases; while William Redgrave is a veteran of commercial disputes, specialising in obtaining freezing and disclosure orders to assist in asset tracing and the preservation of assets. Lynne Gregory is the name to note for contentious insolvencies and trust. James Sheedy and Charlie Sorensen are also recommended.
At Baker & Partners, lawyers focus on white-collar criminal defence and regulatory work. The team is focused on investigations and prosecutions, often handling cases with an international angle, with lawyers who often act on the prosecution side in fraud cases. The group is also called on to assist individuals and entities outside Jersey whose funds have been frozen having been suspected to represent the proceeds of crime. Another area where the firm is active is mutual legal assistance matters, where the team works closely with international law enforcement professionals. Key lawyers are Simon Thomas , who serves as a crown advocate for the attorney general; William Redgrave , who is noted for handling major fraud cases; Stephen Baker , who focuses on asset recovery; and Lynne Gregory , who handles multi-jurisdictional cases, often involving asset-tracing and fraud claims.
