Dr. Szabolcs Mestyán LL.M., founding partner has been working with the firm for over 15 years now and heads our market leading Banking & Finance, Capital Markets and Aviation practices.
His expertise covers practically all areas of these practices including cross-border financing, banking and capital markets regulation, foundation and licensing of financial institutions, M&A in the banking sector, banking and capital markets products, restructuring, banking and capital markets litigation, securitization issues, shares and bond issuances (including sovereign bonds), complex equity and debt securities offerings, dual-listings, IPO, derivatives, structured products, structured finance and asset management. He assisted EBRD in developing the new “Guidelines for the management of NPLs” and has recently been involved in most of the larger NPL transactions in Hungary and across the C&SEE region.
Szabolcs and his practice groups are highly ranked by the most notable independent legal directories and Szabolcs is regarded as a cutting-edge expert in banking and capital markets matters by them. He has a market leading practice in aviation leasing and financing in the C&SEE region.

Noted for its ‘high-quality legal advice’, the banking, finance and capital markets team at Lakatos, Köves and Partners demonstrates pre-eminence in asset finance. The team is regularly engaged as local counsel by major international names, as well as acting on Eurobond issuances involving Hungarian players, and advising Hungarian investors in outbound investments. Centering on the energy sector, the team’s project finance expertise sees it regularly assisting lenders with solar projects. As an English and Hungarian-qualified banking expert, practice co-head John Fenemore brings extensive cross-border capabilities across securitisation, trade finance and bond issuance to the team.
