Career

Gilles Gaillard heads the insurance and the reinsurance practice in the firm. He has more than 20 years of experience in corporate and insurance law both on contracts and products (life and non-life), joint-ventures or holding structures and on regulatory matters related to structures and intermediation.

Gilles Gaillard has assisted major actors in the insurance industry for many years, on the domestic and on the international markets, with a recognized expertise in M&A and equity transactions, complex cross-border transactions, regulatory matters and anti-trust at a national and European level (including the first SGAM in France). He has broad experience in insurance law and in regulatory and litigation matters related to structures products in collaboration with specialized regulatory authorities. He organizes distribution and partnerships in France and abroad.

Gilles Gaillard has also been involved for more than 20 years in public and private M&A, private equity and corporate restructuring, with a focus on complex cross-border transactions and regulated sectors. He advises French and foreign funds, management companies, private and public investors, family and institutional shareholders, financial institutions, business creators, family offices in relation with their corporate finance transactions, acquisitions or disposals of assets and listed and unlisted securities, private equity transactions (venture capital, build-up), joint ventures and partnerships.

He is particularly active in the finance, insurance, energy, and life science sectors.

Gilles Gaillard is member of the International Bar Association, of the French societies: France Invest, AFIC, AJAR, AMRAE and “Cercle des Administrateurs” (with notably INSEAD and Wharton). Gilles Gaillard is member of ADVANT Altana’s executive committee and international board.

Before joining ADVANT Altana as a partner in 2017, Gilles was a partner at DE GAULLE FLEURANCE & ASSOCIES for 15 years and at MAZARS for 3 years.

With a strong contentious healthcare practice, Altana is particularly well regarded for product liability class actions, a reputation cemented by having acted on the first action of this kind in France. Experienced in litigation before the civil, administrative and criminal courts, the team also routinely appears before healthcare regulators both domestically and in multi-jurisdictional cases. The practice has further expertise in IP, notably patent law. On the transactional side, the group is retained by several corporates and investors on M&A and joint venture mandates, particularly in emerging markets. Altana est pourvu d’une forte pratique contentieuse dans le domaine de la santé. Le cabinet est notamment réputé pour son expertise dans la gestion des actions de groupe en responsabilité des produits – il est intervenu dans la première procédure de ce type menée en France. L’équipe est en mesure d’agir devant les tribunaux civils, administratifs et pénaux, ainsi que devant les autorités de régulation, pour la gestion d’affaires de dimension nationale comme internationale. Le cabinet est aussi compétent en droit de la propriété intellectuelle, notamment en droit des brevets. Il est enfin mandaté par des entreprises et des investisseurs pour traiter des opérations de fusions-acquisitions et de partenariat, notamment dans les marchés émergents. Armand Aviges, Jean-Nicolas Soret, et Gilles Gaillard sont les principaux intervenants. A noter, Frank Valentin  a rejoint DLA Piper au début de l’année 2021.

Altana réunit des compétences transactionnelles et contentieuses dans le secteur de l’assurance. Le cabinet gère des litiges judiciaires, ainsi que des procédures d’arbitrage et de médiation, et intervient dans des opérations de structuration et de fusions-acquisitions. Il traite aussi des dossiers réglementaires et de droit de la concurrence. Le spectre de compétences est particulièrement large et couvre les risques industriels, la responsabilité des produits, les questions de distribution et de développement des produits d’assurance, ainsi que les problématiques de cybersécurité et de protection des données, enfin la gestion des questions d’assurance propres aux secteurs de l’insurtech et de la fintech. La pratique est mandatée par des assureurs, des réassureurs et des agents intermédiaires, d’origine française ou internationale. La pratique est codirigée par :  Gilles Gaillard qui est expert en droit des sociétés ; l’avocate de contentieux  Valérie Lafarge-Sarkozy ; et l’expert en droit de la concurrence  Frédéric Manin .

Paris > Fusions-acquisitions

L’équipe d’Altana rassemble une quinzaine d’avocats qui assistent plusieurs groupes français de premier plan, notamment dans les secteurs de la santé, de l’énergie, de l’assurance, du transport et des TMT.  Gilles Gaillard et Jean-Nicolas Soret codirigent la pratique, à laquelle participent également Bruno Nogueiro  et Fabien Pouchot .
