Jean-Nicolas has been practicing M&A for the past 20 years. He specializes in public and private Mergers & Acquisitions and Joint Ventures, with a particular focus on private cross-border M&A transactions. His expertise includes acquisitions and sales of companies and groups, strategic partnerships and joint venture agreements, takeover bids, divestment of non-core assets, group and shareholder structure reorganizations, as well as corporate governance. Jean-Nicolas Soret has a specific focus in the high tech, agriculture, renewable energy and biotech industries. He is an active member of the International Bar Association and the French Institute of Directors (Institut Français des Administrateurs). Jean-Nicolas Soret regularly publishes articles in The American Lawyer magazine and focuses his editorial activity on M&A techniques and Foreign Direct Investment. Before joining ADVANT Altana as a partner in 2010, Jean-Nicolas was a partner at REED SMITH LLP. Jean-Nicolas Soret is member of ADVANT Altana’s international board.

Jean-Nicolas Soret was named by Best Lawyers 2020 for M&A and Life Sciences / biotech, and is a member of our Life Sciences team, which was ranked in band 1 by Legal 500 EMEA this year.

Altana est pourvu d’une forte pratique contentieuse dans le domaine de la santé. Le cabinet est notamment réputé pour son expertise dans la gestion des actions de groupe en responsabilité des produits – il est intervenu dans la première procédure de ce type menée en France. L’équipe est en mesure d’agir devant les tribunaux civils, administratifs et pénaux, ainsi que devant les autorités de régulation, pour la gestion d’affaires de dimension nationale comme internationale. Le cabinet est aussi compétent en droit de la propriété intellectuelle, notamment en droit des brevets. Il est enfin mandaté par des entreprises et des investisseurs pour traiter des opérations de fusions-acquisitions et de partenariat, notamment dans les marchés émergents. Armand Aviges, Jean-Nicolas Soret, et Gilles Gaillard sont les principaux intervenants. A noter, Frank Valentin  a rejoint DLA Piper au début de l’année 2021.

With a strong contentious healthcare practice, Altana is particularly well regarded for product liability class actions, a reputation cemented by having acted on the first action of this kind in France. Experienced in litigation before the civil, administrative and criminal courts, the team also routinely appears before healthcare regulators both domestically and in multi-jurisdictional cases. The practice has further expertise in IP, notably patent law. On the transactional side, the group is retained by several corporates and investors on M&A and joint venture mandates, particularly in emerging markets. Armand Aviges, Jean-Nicolas Soret and Gilles Gaillard. Frank Valentin left the firm in 2021.
