Career

Cecilia practices national and international, commercial and investment arbitration, acting as counsel and as arbitrator. Cecilia is further active in international commercial litigation, especially in arbitration-related proceedings.

She is also active in the field of M&A, corporate transactions and commercial contracts.

She is responsible of the Legance German desk, with a focus on German speaking countries and Eastern Europe.

Cecilia is pro bono partner at Legance coordinating the corporate social activities of the Firm.

Member of: ICC International Court of Arbitration, ICC Task Force on Emergency Arbitrator Proceedings for Italy. She is co-founder of Arbit, co-chair of the arbitration working group of ASLA, and member of the Council of AIA. She is also a member of IBA, LCIA, DIS and ArbitralWomen.

Education

In 1997 she graduated in Law, summa cum laude, at Università “LUISS - Guido Carli”, Rome, Italy.
In 1999 she obtained a LL.M. in Comparative and International Private Law and in 2005 a Ph.D. in Comparative and International Private Law, both at Humboldt Universität, Berlin, Germany.

In 2005 she obtained a Ph.D. in Comparative and International Private Law in Berlin.

She was researcher in comparative commercial law at the LUISS Guido Carli University from 2006 to 2016.

In 2000 she was a Visiting lawyer at Hengeler Mueller in Berlin.

Legance - Avvocati Associati's practice covers acquisitions, mergers, takeovers, shareholder and voting agreements, and joint ventures. Filippo Troisi, who leads the corporate finance department, acted for Banco BPM on the sale of asset management business Aletti Gestielle to Anima Holding; Giorgio Vanzanelli advised Sonatrach on the acquisition of a refinery in Sicily; and Bruno Bartocci acted for GTCR on the Italian law aspects of the acquisition of Albany Molecular Research. Other highly rated practitioners are Gabriele Capecchi, who heads the real estate department and Gian Paolo Tagariello, who is particularly focused on the insurance, banking and financial sectors, along with Alberto Giampieri, Giovanni Nardulli,  Andrea Fedi and Cecilia Carrara. Federica Pomero was promoted to the partnership in 2019. Legance - Avvocati Associati advises on contentious financial and white-collar criminal law matters, as well as antitrust, IP and insolvency-related disputes. In recent highlights, Stefano Parlatore represented Henkel Italia in several injunction proceedings aimed at obtaining the withdrawal of certain competitors’ products from the market and acted for the same client in the negotiation of settlement agreements, and Daniele Geronzi represented Banca Nazionale del Lavoro in various proceedings against Ferrovie del Sud Est e Servizi Automobilistici regarding issues of procedural, bankruptcy, administrative and criminal law. Arbitration proceedings are another area of expertise; Cecilia Carrara is the key contact in this space.
