Position

Suzan is a lawyer who specialises in employment relations in the broadest sense (works councils, reorganisations, individual dismissals and collective redundancy, severance schemes, secondment and contracts for services). She advises national and international companies and private individuals and regularly counsels directors (as defined in the articles of association) and senior executives of large companies.

Suzan is a member of the VAAN, the Hague Chapter of the Employment Law Association.

Education

She obtained her degree in Dutch law from Radboud University Nijmegen in 1985, and joined Buren in 1999. Her final thesis on the 'Condition Subsequent in Employment Agreements' was awarded the Levenbach thesis prize. Suzan completed the Grotius specialisation course on Employment Law and was a lecturer in employment law for the Dutch Bar Association.

The team at Buren is headed by Suzan van de Kam, who acted for Coty on the Dutch employment aspects of its €13bn acquisition of certain beauty brands from Procter & Gamble. She also advised Medux, Sime Darby Group and Marsh on reorganisations. Jan Holthuis, who has a particular focus on China-related matters, was part of a team that assisted Damen Shipyards with the employment aspects of its China operation; Joost Quant and Damiën Berkhout are also recommended.
