Mr Youssef Abou Zeid
Mr. Youssef Abou Zeid, Senior Partner, is Head of the Dispute Resolution Department at ZH&P where he manages cases before courts of all natures and degrees and represents a great number of renowned clients in arbitration cases. He is an expert in the preparation of the applications of arbitration, writs of cases, appeals, cassations and pleadings and in carrying out all the procedures for the execution of judgments including arbitration awards and foreign judgments.
He is an expert in Civil law, Commercial, Banking, Labour, Social Security, and Lease Laws and Commercial Arbitration. He is specialized in drafting the various types of contracts including sale contracts (moveable and immovable), gratuitous contracts, lease, employment, commercial agencies, loans, real estate mortgage and commercial mortgage contracts. He also did the registration of several real estate owned by foreign entities and embassies in Egypt and also was following up all the procedures at ZH&P’s Real Estate Department.
Mr. Abou Zeid was the lead lawyer in the site acquisitions for one of the largest telecommunication companies in Egypt. He also handles telecom cases such as: Representing Vodafone Egypt in front of the State Council in the interconnection agreements’ dispute (in 2008) and the case against the Minister of Telecommunications and the National Telecom Regulatory Authority regarding imposing a penalty scheme on all telecom operators in Egypt not complying to their legal/ regulatory obligations (2016) – among others.

- Advising Pepsi Cola Egypt in the Direct Appeal Proceedings before the Administrative Court regarding the Real Estate Tax Imposed on the Pepsi Plant in ‘Wafaa wal Amal” District. (2020)

- Representing the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in the dispute regarding the USD 35 million loan to Omar Effendi. (2019)

With over 42 years of extensive experience in the litigation practice, he masters the legal skills pertaining to the employer-employee relationship including the drafting and implementation of employment policies and strategies, negotiating employment agreements, and advising clients on issues affecting the transfer of employees and pensions – as well as representing clients before the disciplinary boards and courts in employment disputes. Mr. Abou Zeid is also a seasoned expert in dispute resolution where he leads ZH&P’s Litigation team into successful dispute resolutions matters.
Selected examples of the clients he has extended his legal services to include the majority of embassies in Egypt as well as other prominent clients from various sectors such as: Alitalia, The American University in Cairo, Deloitte (UK Office), GIZ, Engie (Formerly GDF Suez), General Electric, Hilton International, HSBC, Hogan Huawei Technologies, International Committee of the Red Cross, Medicines Sans Frontiers, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Nissan Motors, Nokia Siemens Networks, Novartis Pharma, Pepsi-Cola – among others.
His experience also includes acting as the lead partner handling a number of major real-estate transactions such as EMAAR’s – one of Egypt’s leading real estate companies – acquisition of land plots with a total space of 4.5 million square meters. He was also in charge of handling the acquisition of 2,020 Feddans by Qatari Diar Real Estate Company (formally known as Barwa Real Estate).
Mr. Abou Zeid was ranked by the LEGAL 500 as “Leading Individual” in the Dispute Resolution practice (Litigation) for the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. He was recommended in the Arbitration practice for the year 2018.
He was admitted before the Egyptian Court of Cassation in 1992 and is enlisted since 2006 as Arbitrator at the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration. He is member of the Egyptian Society of International Law, the Egyptian Society of Economy, statistics and Legislation, and is Fellow of the Egyptian Society of Taxation. Mr. Abou Zeid is proficient in Arabic and English.
Mr. Abou Zeid is a member of the Egyptian Bar Association since 1977 and is registered at the Egyptian Court of Cassation since 1992. He is also a member of the Egyptian Society of International Law, Egyptian Society of Economy and Legislation, Fellow of the Egyptian Society of Taxation and enlisted since 2006 as an arbitrator at the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA).
Mr. Youssef Abou Zeid achieved his LL.B. at Faculty of Law, Cairo University, in 1975. He obtained a Diploma in Private Law from the Faculty of Law, Cairo University, in 1981, and a second Diploma in Criminal Science from the Faculty of Law, Cairo University, in 1984.
