Testimonials

Very high-quality work is done in a commercial and cost-effective way.  It is a very good team to work with.

Huw Wallis is a top-quality litigator, sensible and pragmatic. A great team player too. Adele Whaley is a highly effective lead associate.

Huw Wallis and Jamie McConnell are not only exceptional lawyers, with unparalleled attention to detail and grasp of the law but also have emotional intelligence levels that are critical in a high-stress environment. I received exceptional advice and execution which resulted in defeating a much larger law firm with far higher resources. But I also had lawyers who were emotionally engaged with me as a client.

Their advice and guidance were nothing short of exceptional. Their ability to exert pressure and find the hidden facts through detailed analysis or the evidence and the law provided a successful outcome.

Jamie McConnell and Huw Wallis show attention to detail and emotional intelligence with quality strategic advice and the ability to outperform much larger firms with more resource. They were emotionally involved with the client and showed an unparalleled work ethic and understanding of the law.

David Woods and Claire Banks both had significant roles to play in my acquisition and were able to communicate to me in a language I could understand and relate. Their effort and hard work was exceptional and they worked long hours, evenings and weekends to maintain the momentum of the deal to ensure we got through to the end. They are true professionals and nice people to boot. I wouldn’t consider any other company for legal matters in the future.

The Greenwoods team is friendly and helpful compared to other firms I have dealt with.

There is a good mix of experience and youth. My main contact David Woods has handled corporate matters for our business for many years.

Testimonials

Greenwoods is the best partner working with our function at the moment. The team is very diverse in capabilities, background and gender. We have different experts for each area of knowledge and practice, always available to support the team not only with a very strong competency and knowledge but also in an absolutely friendly and supportive way. They’ve been partnering with us for many years and I have no plans to change it for the next years.

My main contact point is Robert Dillarstone and he is brilliant. Perfect client management, being always available, with a complete knowledge of legislation, case and team management. He is always very prompt to respond or address matters to the right talents in his team. Having the history of our cases after years of partnership also allows a great outcome. We have had very successful cases with Greenwoods representing our company. And in comparison to other competitors they offer an outstanding service for a good price.

The firm is professional, competent and does what it says on the tin. It provides ready access to the appropriate resource, who have always gone the extra mile in terms of response. Extremely thorough with great attention to detail.

We appreciate their knowledge, pragmatism and availability. They always make us feel special.

Jo Scally is exceptional in the field of employment law and has always provided us with outstanding advice and support.’

The team at Greenwoods has taken time to understand and develop relationships with the particular sector of the market in which I operate and this distinguishes them from other players in the market.

Pragmatic advice delivered with a personal touch. I view the individuals I work with as trusted colleagues, with whom I feel confident in speaking candidly about my challenges and from whom I will receive helpful and timely advice.

They exemplify the values you would expect from a small family business, whilst having the resources, skills and acumen of a much larger business.

I have only worked with Jo Scally but I have been very impressed with her clear, practical advice and her knowledge of the sector.

We appreciate their ability to respond quickly, to want to really get to know your business and culture so that they can work with you to come up with solutions that are practical and balance risk appropriately. They are also a really nice group of people to work with.

Testimonials

The legal team is helpful and informative with a broad range of expertise. They host regular breakfast seminars to provide their clients and those in the relevant sectors with updates on key changes to legislation and legal precedents.

I find the individual team members I have worked with to be very easy to work with. They are supportive and their knowledge base enables them to offer a pragmatic approach to the matters at hand.

The Barclays corporate team has an extremely strong relationship with the Greenwoods GRM corporate team and this close working relationship has been instrumental in providing excellent service for our mutual clients. I have also been impressed with the professionalism and tenacity in working to getting a transaction over the line.

I was extremely impressed with May Ozga the senior associate in the real estate team in Peterborough, May worked tirelessly in ensuring a time critical and complex transaction was completed within strict deadlines, always proving regular updates for the client and the bank.

The staff show well-rounded experience in commercial property law and good knowledge of charity requirements. For a regional firm, they can compare themselves favourably with similar-sized London practices.

From our 18 months’ association the staff we have dealt with have helped to ease our transfer to the firm. The knowledge and experience in the commercial field has assisted in ensuring the continued success of our charity. In particular, Emily Pumfrey and Stephen Illingworth have helped the transition. Reda Paul has shown her worth on our residential portfolio.

My GP practice has historically used Greenwoods for many years and many generations of GPs. The reason is that the partners, associates and staff we have worked with over that time have always been personable, contactable and knowledgeable with an ability to understand our requirements and show patience with our ignorance of legal workings and an innate ability to make unfathomable legal technicalities and jargon understandable by the lay person. Their pragmatic approach to difficulties is refreshing and their common sense approach in the face of obstinacy from third parties’ legal teams is refreshing.

In recent years our main contact has been primarily with Kelly Peck in Cambridge but also Ann-Marie Clow in Peterborough. They have both been involved in the selling onwards of our main practice premises a couple of years ago and more recently over the last year, renegotiating a new lease with the incumbent practice and NHS England. Both involved, to us, complex legal difficulties and difficult lengthy procrastinations on the part of the third parties involved but they they guided us skillfully through the process with patience and clarity as to the various legal difficulties we faced and pragmatic resolutions in as timely a manner as was possible.

Construction Tier 2

Greenwoods GRM has 'a small but effective construction team with a personal touch' that provides 'value-added, prompt and practical advice'. The firm handles regional, national and international construction work. Lorna Carter, who works in the Cambridge, Peterborough and London offices as required, is a member of the Federation of Master Builders’ Standards Committee and she stands out for both advisory work and contentious matters. She co-leads the practice with Howard Crossman, who works predominantly in London and co-ordinates the firm's international work.

Practice head(s):

Testimonials

The key strengths observed include the ability to digest a case and understand its particulars promptly, and the balanced feedback where the approach is always to reach a resolution rather than engage in lengthy processes. The main drivers were protection of interest, sound advice and a practical approach. At no point in time was financial benefit a driver. This is something to respect.

Howard Crossman is remarkable in the ability to predict and simulate various scenarios and advise on appropriate course of action to deal with complex situations. He has the ability to integrate with a team and become a member who proactively engages away from any personal interests. He identifies gaps and possible areas of challenges. He has the ability to deliver, organise and guide in a very time-efficient manner.

It is a small but effective construction team with a personal touch.

Howard Crossman, who leads the construction team, is hands on. He gives value-added, prompt and practical advice.

The staff are very engaging and are always available to provide advice.

Lorna Carter is exceptional at her role. Extremely efficient and completely understanding of what legal support is needed by clients.

Greenwoods have served us well over many years, with a pragmatic approach to solving problems.’

Lorna Carter is someone we use regularly for advice with negotiating terms, she looks at the problem from an all-round perspective and gives us valuable help to reach swift agreements.

I appreciated the quickness of responses in dealing with our case.

Having not had many occasions to use legal firms our knowledge is limited. However, Howard Crossman was recommended to us by a previous law firm that  couldn’t act for us on this occasion. We have found Howard to be very efficient and approachable. Everything was explained thoroughly. We are pleased with the service so far.’

Howard Crossman is a thorough, conscientious and knowledgeable partner who always goes the extra mile to get the information and do the work.

Practice head(s):

Testimonials

I have met with and worked with Clare Harris over several years now. She has a great style – firm but personable and very knowledgeable. As a professional she is dedicated towards her development and increasing her knowledge and that comes across when you meet her.

My experience of Greenwoods is right up there with the best.  Excellent advice, prompt service, sympathetic to our needs and a pleasure to do business with.  The issues we needed support with were not complicated but they did have serious issues that needed dealing with carefully and I can’t imagine anyone else dealing with them in a more efficient and competent way.

I only worked with Clare Harris who I cannot praise enough. She provided an excellent service, was very knowledgeable about the issues we were dealing with and above all took time to listen to our concerns.

The only member of the team that I know is Clare Harris, who came highly recommended by a friend. She is very pleasant and highly efficient which is all I needed.

Testimonials

I found the firm very efficient in the way that they conducted their business when I contacted them. I would recommend them to anyone!

The individual who dealt with my case was Ellen Eley, and I couldn’t have wished for a more helpful, efficient or caring person. I would not hesitate to recommend Ellen to anyone, and should I need a solicitor in the future, I would ask for her!

From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt the staff were professional and at the same time welcoming.’

The person who we dealt with was professional, caring and very clear and precise when explaining what the probate process entailed. Very knowledgeable as you would expect but at the same time wanted to ensure that we fully understood the process. She was on time for the appointment and whenever I needed to communicate with her she always responded back in a timely and positive way.

The longevity of the firm made access of past information convenient, even if partners had moved on.

Rebecca Towey and her assistant were excellent in long-distance communication over this rather long and drawn out process.’

A pragmatic and helpful approach, which makes things understandable.’

Ellen Eley always responded promptly and prepared to listen, challenge and come up with alternatives.

The private client team is very good at speaking in plain English to clients so they understand.

We started the will-making process with another company but they let us down. We then asked Greenwoods to prepare our wills for us, and they were thorough, professional and helpful. We had them sorted in no time.

Testimonials

I have been with Greenwoods since my husband came back from Holland in 1974. Compared with the firms we had in London before we went to Holland in 1964, Greenwoods were fantastic. A very high standard of personal help over the years.

Over the years we have dealt with various solicitors. Without exception they were all of the same high standard, always explaining very clearly the legal language I did not understand, and always being available and helpful over any crisis.

We have used several different practices over the years but found Greenwoods GRM LLP the best for dealing with our commercial premises.

Greenwoods is very responsive by phone and by email and gives clear and concise advice.

Our most recent office lease was handled by Greenwoods and was the smoothest I have ever experienced. They kept up the momentum on our behalf and made sure that nothing was forgotten on both our side and the landlord’s side.

Greenwoods is a friendly and approachable practice that is small enough to retain the personal feel, but large enough to offer wide-ranging advice.

Kelly Peck has a fantastic knowledge of the local property market, and leads a proactive and vibrant team. Kelly is always approachable and draws from her wealth of experience, to give sound, reasoned and efficient advice to her wide range of clients.

All the individuals at Greenwoods GRM are very personable, competent and approachable.

Kelly Peck has been incredibly helpful in various matters and is a pleasure to work with, her advice is always clear, concise and practical. Her knowledge of commercial law generates confidence.

I have been working with Greenwoods GRM for more than ten years and they always hold the pragmatic and personal approach while providing a very valuable commercial legal advice on commercial properties. The team has a wealth of local and regional, as well as national market knowledge. No job is ever too big or too small for them. I appreciate the continuous review they hold with their clients. It means they always put the right resources in for the jobs.

Kelly Peck is a partner at Greenwoods. I have worked with Kelly for almost ten years and it has always been a pleasure working with her, and it was great to see her career has progressed with the growth of the firm. Kelly was relocated to Cambridge a few years ago to expand its business in Cambridge. Her hard work seemed to pay off as Greenwoods is now one of the established and well known practices in Cambridge. Kelly is always helpful and I can always call upon her on advice. Her advice is professional and honest but also bears commercial perspective, which is a breath of fresh air from other competitors I came across.

Commercial litigation: mid-market Tier 6

Greenwoods GRM's disputes team comprises several specialist sub-teams, including construction, financial services and regulatory. The London team is led by Peterborough and London-based Huw Wallis, whose experience includes claims involving injunctive relief; and Nicholas Scott, who specialises in complex international commercial disputes, including High Court litigation and arbitration.

Testimonials

Huw Wallis runs a highly client-focussed, commercial, and switched-on team. City quality, without the city overheads.

Huw Wallis is a first-class litigator – willing to test the arguments available, and explore how they can be developed to best achieve the client’s goals. A good lawyer, and a good person to work with.

Personal, affordable and best practice. Exceptional access to partners and very knowledgeable legal advisors in the litigation area.

Champagne service at a lemonade price.

Greenwoods is what I imagine a client would want from a mid-market litigation team. It has the experience, expertise, and attitude of a larger firm but at a price that reflects its provincial base.

Huw Wallis leads from the front. He runs a tight ship and also manages complex and (for barristers) interesting cases himself.

Nick Greenwood is an excellent litigator. He is careful, tactical, and commercial. Nick knows his law and is always looking for a solution.

The tax litigation team at Greenwoods GRM has takes the initiative and responds rapidly and efficiently to all the challenges of the litigation process.

Nick Scott is outstanding. He has tremendous knowledge and experience, is always available, and responds to challenges in a cal, decisive and unphased manner.

The breadth in expertise of our team allows us to offer fast and cost-effective solutions on a variety of property disputes.  Our Property Disputes team is led by Chi Collins, who is recognised as one of the UK’s leading experts in leasehold enfranchisement.

Real estate:  we have an experienced real team which provides its clients with prompt and practical advice on a wide range of property issues and transactions. Team members are adept at combining strong technical skills with a commercial approach. It advises clients on issues relating to the acquisition, sale, ownership, investment in and development of both freehold and leasehold land and buildings, frequently working closely with other Greenwoods GRM teams on corporate transactions, agricultural land, charities, education and food. The team also has strong working relationships with a range of other professional advisers who can be consulted when commercial property issues require input from other experts such as surveyors or accountants. Samantha East leads this team well known for ‘getting the deal done’.

Regulatory and compliance including health and safety, and corporate manslaughter: we provide clients with a map through the laws that affect their businesses. This enables compliance to be achieved without restricting corporate goals. Our team, led by nationally recognised Kathryn Gilbertson, has extensive experience in environmental; health and safety; food safety; fire safety; trading standards; product liability and product recall issues. We advise the hospitality and leisure industry’s leading players on compliance, adapting strategies to suit the ever-changing regulatory horizon.

IP:  we have particular experience of transactions, licensing and disputes relating to IP issues. Our work is across a wide range of industry sectors and is lead by ‘rising star’ Jamie McConnell.

Wealth preservation: as financial matters and personal relationships become more complex, our specialist team gives practical and straightforward advice on managing wealth, inheritance and assets with a service tailored to the needs of high-net-worth individuals. Our team is led by Gareth Hughes, with Clare Harris leading our Cambridge team.
