Types of work undertaken include:
Corporate and commercial: the firm has substantial experience and expertise in corporate matters. Mergers and acquisitions, the sale or purchase of companies, and shares and businesses are a key part of its work. Commercial work includes commercial contracts, data protection, e-commerce, EU competition, information technology, outsourcing and charity law. Much of the work relates to business contracts, but the firms advice also includes making sure that companies activities comply with certain regulatory regimes.
Finance and Investment Funds: the team provides highly specialised services to a variety of asset managers and investment funds.
It provides an international service to the investment industry in fund formation and marketing, tax, corporate law, M&A, company formations, regulation and compliance, derivatives, trading, finance, restructuring, litigation and employment law.
Employment and employee benefits: the team is one of the largest in the Eastern region and also has a strong London presence. It provides a comprehensive employment law service, including advice on large scale restructuring and employee transfers, employee information and consultation, employment tribunal claims (including wrongful and unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistle blowing), breach of confidentiality and restraint of trade including injunctions, as well as a skilled non-contentious service dealing with the drafting of contractual and policy documentation. The team also includes specialist pension and corporate immigration lawyers.
Commercial property: the firm’s experienced property team provides its clients with prompt and practical advice on a wide range of property issues and transactions. The team is adept at combining strong technical skills with a commercial approach. It advises clients on issues relating to the acquisition, sale, ownership, investment in and development of both freehold and leasehold land and buildings, frequently working closely with other Greenwoods GRM teams in relation to corporate transactions, agricultural land, charities, education and food. The team also has strong working relationships with a range of other professional advisers who can be consulted when commercial property issues require input from other experts such as surveyors or accountants.
Regulatory including health and safety, and corporate manslaughter: the firm provides clients with a map through the laws that affect their businesses. This enables compliance to be achieved without restricting corporate goals. The team has extensive experience in environmental; health and safety; food safety; fire safety; trading standards; product liability and product recall issues. The team advises the hospitality and leisure industry’s leading players on compliance, adapting strategies to suit the ever changing regulatory horizon.
Commercial disputes: clients include multinational companies and PLCs as well as national businesses and private individuals across all sectors and services. The wide experience of the team enables it to deal with multimillion-pound disputes, in areas as diverse as breach of contract, professional negligence, partnership and company disputes, insolvency, defamation, international arbitration and warranty claims. The firm has specialist teams offering construction and property disputes and has a growing workload in contentious probate.
IP: the firm has particular experience of transactions, licensing and disputes relating to IP issues. The work is across a wide range of industry sectors.
Private client: as financial matters and personal relationships become more complex, the specialist team gives practical and straightforward advice on managing wealth, inheritance, family law and assets with a service tailored to the needs of high-net-worth individuals.
