Hammarskiöld’s banking and finance team has broad expertise acting for credit institutions, banks, investment clients, debt funds, fintech companies, and real estate corporates, among other clients, specialising in direct lending, regulatory, leasing, and asset and project finance matters. Managing partner Mattias Anjou, who has considerable experience assisting both lenders and borrowers in relation to secured and syndicated loans, acquisition financings and bonds, leads the practice; he is also well known for advising credit institutions, investment companies, fund managers, and payment institutions on financial regulations. Direct lending specialist Rasmus Fahlén is especially active in the real estate sector, advising major clients on a range of high-value matters.

Hammarskiöld’s capital markets team handles both equity and debt transactions, with a particularly strong reputation for advising domestic clients on access to primary and secondary markets, market regulations, and stock exchange issues. Carl-Johan Pousette, with experience in IPOs, public takeovers and exchange offers, heads up the team alongside corporate bonds expert Rasmus Fahlén. In 2023, Sandra Broneus left the firm for Advokatfirman Delphi.

Practice head Jakob Falkman regularly advises domestic and international industrial companies, private equity funds, and banks, among other clients, on acquisitions, investments, divestments, and sales in the energy sector, particularly in relation to renewable and energy tech assets. M&A specialist Erik Fahlgren is active in the energy space and was recently involved in matters concerning investments into battery cell technology. Finance expert Rasmus Fahlén specialises in energy infrastructure financings, including wind farm and solar park financing mandates.

Hammarskiöld’s M&A team advises a range of domestic and foreign clients - including companies, private equity sponsors, and venture capital firms - with buy-and-build mandates being a recent area of growth for the team. Senior partner Peder Hammarskiöld boasts vast expertise in both public and private takeovers. Erik Löfwall counts several blue-chip PE funds among his client roster, while Jakob Falkman handles large and mid-cap transations for industrial clients as well as PE funds. Erik Fahlgren is well known for advising Swedish and international clients on cross-border M&A and commercial contracts matters. The four partners jointly oversee the team, within which Magnus Bohman plays a key role, focusing on seller-side mid-cap M&A deals.

Hammarskiöld’s dispute resolution practice has represented major domestic and international clients, including government agencies and energy, insurance, and telecoms companies. The team also works closely with leading firms in other jurisdictions, including the UK and the US, to act in complex international disputes. With varied experience which spans commercial, insurance and professional liability cases, Sandra Kaznova leads the team alongside Andreas Johard, who has recently been involved in oil and gas, investment treaty, and infrastructure project disputes.

Hammarskiöld advises clients in a range of sectors - including tech and insurance - on various competition-related matters, including in high-profile cartel investigations heard before the European Commission. Practice head Claes Langenius has over 25 years’ experience advising domestic and international companies on competition matters as well as representing clients before Swedish and European authorities. Sofia Falkner, who was promoted to partner in January 2023, specialises in cartel and abuse of dominance cases.

Hammarskiöld’s fintech team regularly advises start-ups operating in the space, with particular strength in handling regulatory matters as well as licence applications made to the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority. Mattias Anjou leads the practice, in which financial regulatory specialists Emma Lindwall and Johan Löfquist play key roles.

The ‘outstanding‘ Malin von Heideken leads the team at Hammarskiöld, which handles a vast range of issues for its varied client base of generics manufacturers, parallel traders and pharma companies. The practice is well versed in non-contentious matters, including the drafting and negotiation of license and R&D agreements. Von Heideken is noted for her broad experience in representing clients before the Swedish administrative courts in commercial cases against government agencies. Sofia Falkner has a great deal of regulatory expertise, with her primary areas of focus being the pharma and medtech sectors. Falkner also has deep knowledge of Swedish and EU competition law, advising on a number of cartel investigations and the management of internal investigations.

Hammarskiöld’s broad insurance and reinsurance practice handles transactional, regulatory and contentious matters. The team is particularly strong in W&I insurance cases, advising leading international insurance companies. Sandra Kaznova, who regularly acts as coverage counsel to major insurers, leads the department alongside M&A and capital markets expert Peder Hammarskiöld, who has notable experience in the insurance sector.

Hammarskiöld’s employment team regularly assists blue-chip domestic and international companies with a range of matters, with particular strength in TUPE and whistleblowing cases and the employment aspects of reorganisations.
