Pekin & Bayar embraces diversity and is always open to people with different backgrounds, culture and experience. We believe this broadens the perspective of our lawyers and contributes to building up a more peaceful and tolerant society. To ensure that our lawyers encounter as many different experiences as possible, both at a professional level and from a diversity perspective, we implement a rotating mentorship program, where our partners become mentors for our legal trainees and junior lawyers on a rotating basis. As one of the leading law firms of Turkey, Pekin & Bayar has always been aware of its corporate social responsibility and made it among its top priorities. Accordingly, our senior partners not only actively participate in initiatives and activities aimed at corporate social responsibility but they also encourage all lawyers of Pekin & Bayar to take part in such initiatives. PWN (Professional Women’s Network) is a major initiative to be mentioned in this regard. As Pekin & Bayar, we have not only provided support in the setting up of the association but have strongly encouraged our female lawyers to become members of the association. We are proud to say that currently a number of our lawyers are members of the association, actively taking part in the activities organized by the PWN. Education is another priority of Pekin & Bayar as part of its corporate social responsibility awareness. We have been providing pro bono support for the legal counselling needs of Robert College, Bogaziçi University and the schools of Hisar Egitim Vakfi for the past 15 years. As Pekin & Bayar, we also support and encourage our lawyers to take part in initiatives aimed at education. We believe that from a social responsibility perspective, these initiatives and activities are beneficial on a number of levels. Through them, not only we support education directly but we also we contribute to creating awareness in the society regarding the importance of the rule of law and a fair and stable legal system. Due to their contribution to the professional and personal development of the lawyers involved, we believe they are very constructive activities for our lawyers we well. As an overlapping area between education and support of women’s rights and welfare, we have also collaborated with Bilgi University in their project for providing pro bono legal assistance to women, who do not have the means to access to legal assistance. Within the scope of such project, we have assigned our lawyers to become a part of the team consisting of lawyers from different law firms, who would attend the regularly organized meetings in turns, answering the queries of these women on their legal problems and providing them with legal counselling and support. We also offer paid internships or paid work experience placements to students or graduates regularly. In addition to the above, as part of our corporate social responsibility, we provide clothes aid and allowance to the needy-indigent persons during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

    The capital markets legislation in Turkey has seen important changes in the second half of this year. While some of those changes have been initiated by the Turkish Parliament as part of the lawmaking process, the Turkish Capital Markets Board (the “CMB”), the regulatory authority of the capital markets in Turkey, has been the source of other amendments and changes. This article summarizes the new landscape and discusses the impact of the referred new amendments.
