Ian is a partner and specialises in contentious property and construction law matters. He has a particular expertise in acting for land owners, landlords, developers and construction professionals, who make up the majority of his client base.

Ian provides specialist advice on a full range of contentious property matters or disputes that arise in connection with the acquisition, ownership and management of both residential and commercial properties including breach of contract, lease disputes and commercial lease renewals, rent reviews, breaches of covenant, rights of way and light, and trespass and possession claims. He also is regularly involved in the removal or alteration of restrictive covenants that would otherwise prevent development and provide advice on profit share agreements and overage contracts and disputes.

On construction matters Ian provides advice on a number of different issues including breach of contract claims, material damage claims, professional negligence, arbitration, adjudication and mediation, interim and final account assessments, design disputes and delay claims.

The team acts for a number of retailers and restaurants as well as development and house building companies. Starting January 1st, 2013, a new tax law (Law No. 822, Tax Concertation Law) came into force in and completely changed the taxation system in Nicaragua. Two years later a new law was issued by the National Assembly containing more than 80 amendments, additions and repeals (Law No 891) which came into force December 18th, 2014.
