Partner, specialising in corporate transactional work for UK and international clients, including domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures. Edward’s clients include domestic, international and multi-national companies, financial advisers and entrepreneurs. Edward has extensive experience of advising clients in a broad range of industry sectors, including leisure, media, entertainment, healthcare and private equity.


Trained Thomas Eggar; qualified 1990. Edward joined Goodman Derrick as a partner in 2012. Prior to that he had been a partner at Charles Russell LLP (2008-12) and at Faegre & Benson LLP (formerly Hobson Audley in London) (1998-2008). Among other highlights, Paul Webb acted for the shareholders of Adsensa on the sale of 100% of the share capital to US technology company Exari Group; Edward Hoare advised Pavilion Books Group on the acquisition of the Pitkin Publishing imprint and related trade and assets from The History Press; Dominic Prentis, who joined from Gowling WLG in January 2018, assisted AIM-listed wealth management firm AFH Financial Group on the acquisition of financial planning business Eunisure; and Jessica Nugent advised Simmons Bar Group on the £10m sale of a majority stake in the company to a private equity-backed purchase vehicle. Department head Paul Herbert advises Digital 3 + 4 on DTT broadcasting activities and regulatory matters, advises TVT on contractual agreements with broadcasters, and advises the Office of the Adjudicator for Broadcast Transmission Services (OTA-BTS) on contractual and regulatory matters. Corporate partner Tanya Shillingford regularly handles film and TV financing mandates and advises the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) on a range of classifications, policy and commercial matters. Corporate and M&A partner Edward Hoare regularly advises media clients on transactional matters and acted for Pavilion on the purchase of the Pitkin Publishing Imprint and related trade and assets from the History Press. Stephen Hornsby handles competition and regulatory matters for media and sports-sector clients and advises Campaign for Broadcasting Equality (CBE) on its lobbying with the BBC, Ofcom and the DCM’s for increased BAME representation in the media industry.
