Career

Prof. dr hab. Jaroslaw Majewski has chaired legal departments of Polish major financial institutions in the past. This experience enables him to find the optimum solutions for clients, not only from the point of view of the nature of a legal problem, but also the internal regulations in force in the organization. He is a renowned authority, in particular in the sphere of banking and criminal law.

He combines legal practice with scientific work. Between 1991 and 2002, he was a research fellow at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. He was awarded a prestigious fellowship by the Polish Research Foundation, and was also a fellow at the Tokyo Sasakawa Foundation and the Vienna “Werk Janineum” foundation.

Since 2002, he has chaired the Criminal Law Department of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw. He is heavily involved in the work of this university: in 2010-2012 he was Vice Chancellor, in 2005-2012 he was a member of its Senate, in 2008-2010 he was Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration and in 2002-2008 he was Vice Dean of this Faculty.
In 1993 he qualified as a judge, and in 1994 qualified as a legal advisor. Since 1995 he has practiced as a legal advisor in various positions. Since 2005 he has been an advocate.

He is an arbitrator at the Arbitration Court at the Polish Bank Association, and an arbitrator at the Arbitration Tribunal for Sport at the Polish Olympic Committee.

He was a former member of the Codification Committee of the Criminal Code at the Ministry of Justice (between 2012 and 2016).

From 1997 to 1999, he served as deputy director of the Legal Department at the Headquarters of PKO BP, and from 1999 to 2003 he acted as director of the Legal Department of the Headquarters of BGZ S.A.

He is the author, co-author or editor of almost 170 publications in various areas of law. He has written treatises, commentaries, articles and glosses published in Polish and international scientific magazines, including well-received commentaries on the Criminal Code and on the Criminal Justice System, as well as treatises on the protection of creditors, the protection of trading in securities, banking secrecy and confidential information. He is the author of numerous legal opinions, including many written at the request of the Sejm – the Polish Parliament.
