Marco Steiner is a partner in our Vienna office and a member of our corporate and M&A practice group, as well as the real estate practice group. His primary areas of focus are major strategic M&A and real estate projects, particularly in transport, infrastructure, and other regulated industries. Marco also regularly advises on private equity and venture capital transactions. He is a lecturer and legal expert for the energy and infrastructure sectors.


Marco joined E+H in 2007. Prior to that, he worked for the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Vienna.

Following the retirement of co-head Michael Strenitz in July 2021, Marco Steiner now co-heads E+H Eisenberger + Herzog’s restructuring and insolvency group with Marcus Benes. Steiner’s expertise in corporate and M&A and Benes’ banking and finance capabilities constitute the team’s key strengths and lead to regular corporate and financial restructuring mandates, which have recently included the restructuring of loans and debt, refinancing matters and distressed M&A. Clients include banks and debtors alongside buyers and sellers of distressed assets.

The multidisciplinary energy and projects team at E+H Rechtsanwälte GmbH has expertise in conventional and renewable power, oil and gas, telecoms, engineering and construction projects as well as public and critical infrastructure. Financing, restructuring projects and assisting with regulatory and commercial aspects form part of the firm’s portfolio, which has also recently expanded into advising on structuring and implementing energy communities based on the the Austrian Renewable Expansion Act passed in 2021. Vienna-based Marco Steiner and Ulrike Sehrschön, and Tatjana Dworak, who heads the firm’s offices in Graz and Klagenfurt, are the key names.
