Paul H. Assies studied law in Cologne and legal service management in Nottingham.
The specialist lawyer for banking and capital market law advises and represents public and private banks, insurance companies, investment consultancies and leasing companies. He focuses on investment advice in the regulated and grey capital markets and credit law as well as banking supervision and leasing contract law. Both investors and lenders are regularly advised on complex loan structures. In the area of complex litigation, Paul H. Assies focuses not only on banking law but also on automotive law, with his team advising and representing vehicle manufacturers in particular.
Paul H. Assies is chairman of the preliminary examination committee “Fachanwalt für Bank- und Kapitalmarktrecht” of the Cologne Bar Association. Until November 2019 he was also chairman of the working group on banking and capital market law of the German Bar Association. As a member of the advisory board of the series of events “Bankrechtliche Praktiker Seminare” of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, he promotes the exchange between practice and scholarship. Paul H. Assies is a member of DIS (Deutsche Institution für Schiedsgerichtsbarkeit).

Assies is co-editor of the “Zeitschrift für Bank- und Kapitalmarktrecht (BKR)” and author of numerous books, including the standard works “Handbuch des Fachanwalts Bank- und Kapitalmarktrecht”, “Formularbuch und Praxis der freiwilligen Gerichtsbarkeit”, “Das Prozessformularbuch” and “Der Leasingvertrag”. In 2019 and 2020 FOCUS namend him „Top Lawyer for banking and capital market law“.
