Ayotunde Owoigbe is a partner of Banwo & Ighodalo, a leading law firm with offices in Lagos and Abuja. She obtained her law degree from the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in January 2001; she joined B&I shortly afterwards and was admitted into the firm’s partnership in 2010. Her core practice areas, spanning almost 20 years’ experience, are banking and finance, capital markets, M&A and project finance.

She is consistently ranked as a leading Nigerian lawyer by Chambers, IFLR1000, WWL, The Legal 500 and World’s Leading Women in Business Law.


 Ayotunde is a thorough professional; passionate about achieving set goals and objectives efficiently. She obtained her law degree from the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in January 2001, and joined Banwo & Ighodalo in February of the same year. She was admitted into the Firm’s partnership in February 2010. Since she joined the firm in 2001, she has been involved in a significant number of our corporate and project finance, mergers & acquisitions, and banking and securitisation transactions. Ayotunde has been involved in various capital market transactions ranging from Government bond issues to corporate debt issues as well as equity capital market deals in the domestic and international capital markets as well as varied domestic and cross-border M&A transactions

She co-led the teams that advised MTN Nigeria in connection with its landmark listing on the premium board of The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), and notably advised Access Bank Plc on its landmark merger with Diamond Bank in a deal that created the largest retail bank in Africa by customer base and a very significant player in the Nigerian market. She also co-led the team that advised Interswitch Limited, an electronic payment and digital commerce solutions provider in connection with the acquisition of a 19.9% equity stake by Visa International Service Association.

Her other notable M&A transactions include advising Greenoaks Global Holdings Limited in connection with the divestment of its 99.03% equity stake in Ensure Insurance Plc to Allianz, a global leading insurance conglomerate as well as Helios Investments Partners’ acquisition of 49% of Oando Plc’s interest in Oando Gas and Power Limited. She is actively involved in M&A transactions focused on the growth of specific sectors including health, pharmaceutical and education.

Ayotunde is a non-executive director on the board of Africa Plus Partners Nigeria Limited, fund manager of the “Africa Infra Plus Funds I and II”, infrastructure funds registered by the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission and also of Me Cure Industries Limited, a leading pharmaceuticals company in Nigeria. She is founder of The EstherDavid Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation registered in Nigeria; which sponsors charitable initiatives that promote access to formal education, self-employment opportunities and skills acquisition




Nigerian Bar Association, Ayotunde is immediate past chair of the Capital Market Solicitors Association (CMSA), an independent self-regulatory association of Nigerian law firms that contributes to the development of the national capital market and promotes the interests of legal practitioners engaged in capital market transactions. Ayotunde is also a member of the investors, issuers and intermediaries engagement/education sub-committee set up under the auspices of the FMDQ Securities Exchange to make recommendations on the debt capital market development project.
