Position

Tamana is a director of the private/business immigration department at Duncan Lewis.  Tamana deals with a wide variety of immigration cases, including business immigration under the Points Based System. She has developed an expertise in dealing with complex appeals (including deportation appeals and country guidance cases) in the Immigration Tribunals, High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. She also assists with both individuals and businesses, with a particular expertise in assisting clients with immigration applications under EU law.

Tamana advises employers and provides bespoke training on subjects such as compliance with the Home Office’s Prevention of Illegal Working regime and how to use the online sponsorship management system. She frequently provides internal training to lawyers on a regular basis on various immigration topics. Additionally, she advises high net worth and skilled individuals on extending Tier 2 (General) visas, spousal applications, applications for settlement and British Citizenship.

Tamana has dealt with complex matters which have gone to the Supreme Court and have received press and media attention. She was quoted as “an admirable solicitor and advocate” by the Court of Appeal in the case of HS Afghanistan where she represented her client before the Immigration Tribunal.

Tamana joined Duncan Lewis Solicitors in January 2018 as a partner-level director.

Tamana is fluent in Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Urdu and Hindi.

Tamana is accredited as a Supervisor and Level 2 Senior Caseworker under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme which means she has demonstrated the required level of competence and knowledge in Immigration and Asylum law as defined by the Society.

Education

Tamana completed her Masters in Immigration Law at the University of Central England (UCE) where she also completed her LPC and GDL.

Toufique Hossain handles Judicial Review cases involving immigration, EC Law, civil liberties and human rights matters. Jenna McKinney specialises in fast track cases, appeals, asylum, deportation and Judicial Review work. James Packer regularly handles unlawful detention cases. The business immigration department is headed by Ayan Yalchin, Vicash Ramikissoon, Tamana Aziz and Stefan Vnuk, (these last two having recently joined from LUPINS).
