Position

Consultant solicitor Angela specialises in mental health and mental capacity law with expertise in Court of Protection matters relating to health and welfare disputes over residence, contact, medical treatment and care.

Angela generally acts for family members and carers whose loved ones have been deemed to lack capacity. Her specialism is in cases that overlap between the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act; deprivation of liberty safeguards and best interest disputes. She has extensive experience in both representing and advising forensic and non-forensic patients and their nearest relatives in applications to the First-tier Tribunal and appeals to the Upper Tribunal.

Angela also advises patients in respect of their ongoing mental health matters and advises and assists prisoners on possible transfer to hospital under the Mental Health Act.

She is authorised to represent clients under a legal aid contract who are detained under the Mental Health Act before all relevant tribunals throughout England or Wales.

Career

Angela joined Duncan Lewis’ in 2013.

 

Member

She is a member of the Law Society Mental Health Accreditation Scheme. This means Angela has demonstrated a specialist knowledge and experience in relation to the representation of patients in all proceedings before the First-tier Tribunal (mental health) under the Mental Health Act as defined by the Law Society.
