Immigration and Public Law

Position

Vinita is a director of immigration and public law at Duncan Lewis Solicitors. She specialises in a wide range of complex asylum, immigration and human rights matters, including cases involving vulnerable individuals such as victims of torture and human trafficking. She has a broad practice in immigration judicial review claimant matters, frequently achieving success for clients in challenging cases where appeal rights had previously exhausted. She also has an excellent track record of turning around cases that had been deemed without merit.

Vinita is currently lodging a claim for judicial review on behalf of eight Commonwealth veterans against the Secretary of State for Defence and the Secretary of State for the Home Department, challenging Home Office and Ministry of Defence practices that include failures to follow their own guidance and duties with regard to Foreign and Commonwealth HM Forces personnel at discharge, impacting hugely on the claimants’ rights to reside in the UK.

Vinita also litigates in unlawful immigration detention cases and removals to European countries under the Dublin Regulations. She has significant experience leading immigration appeal cases before the Upper Tribunal of the Immigration Asylum Chamber and the Higher Courts.

Additionally, she works closely with charity organisations in South Wales committed to helping asylum seekers. She often takes on extensive pro bono work before being able secure legal aid funding.

Career

Vinita began working at Duncan Lewis Solicitors in 2013 as a consultant; and was appointed as a partner-level director in September 2016.

She is accredited by the Law Society at Level 2 and Supervisor Level of the Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme. She is also a member of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA).

Education

Vinita completed her LPC and Law degree at the University of West England and has a Masters in International Relations
