Career
I joined the team as a trainee in 2003 and was promoted to partner in 2013.
I am one of the few lawyers recommended by Chambers and Legal 500 for both clinical negligence and personal injury work. I also conduct professional negligence claims.
My clinical negligence cases mostly involve birth injury, delays in diagnosis and surgical negligence, especially those leading to catastrophic injury such as amputation.
My personal injury practice predominantly focuses on helping people who suffer life-changing injuries such as amputation, paralysis or head injuries following road traffic collisions or accidents at work. The Times Law Supplement featured my interest in cycle injury claims. I have close links with Limbpower, an amputee charity that encourages amputees into sport to improve quality of life and rehabilitation. I'm also particularly interested in osseointegration surgery and have referred clients for this revolutionary treatment in Australia and Sweden.
I have close links with the Erb's Palsy Group, and am a panel solicitor for the Limbless Association. I am a member of AvMA (Action against Medical Accidents) and the Law Society Clinical Negligence Panel. I am a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).
Stand-out moments in my career include taking the case of JxMX to the Court of Appeal to ensure that children and adults without capacity can now easily obtain anonymity in personal injury and clinical negligence claims when requested; winning the 'outstanding case' award at the Personal Injury Awards in 2015; and, more recently, securing a record UK Erb's Palsy settlement of £2.6m.
I regularly take on clients dissatisfied with their previous solicitors and have secured admissions of liability for clients previously told they did not have a case, as well as achieving larger settlements after they were advised to accept a lesser offer.
My clients describe me as approachable but also as a fierce adversary for my opponents. My ethos is to be the type of solicitor I would want to instruct if needed.
My cases are regularly reported in the national and regional press and I am regularly asked to comment on key legal issues.
