Career

Stewart is a partner in the Restructuring and Insolvency group at Fieldfisher and is a well-known and highly respected expert in his field.

Stewart is the chair of the R3 General Technical Committee, a member of R3’s Council and a member of the consulting editorial board of LexisNexis PSL. He was the 2017 TRI Corporate Restructuring Lawyer of the Year.

In October 2020, Stewart orchestrated the design, development and launch of a new Standard Form CVA, in collaboration with R3 and Peter Walton, Professor of Insolvency Law at the University of Wolverhampton, who is also a member of R3’s General Technical Committee.

The Standard Form documents are intended for use by SME companies whose businesses have been affected by Covid-19. They are intended to save time and costs, and therefore make CVAs more accessible to the SME market.

The Standard Form CVA was very well received by the insolvency industry and its launch was covered by The Times, Accountancy Daily and SmallBusiness.co.uk.

Stewart is regularly quoted in the international, national and industry press on trends in insolvency and changes in UK policy regarding insolvency and restructuring, e.g.:

Stewart Perry Fieldfisher

The ‘commercial and solutions-oriented’ team at Fieldfisher has a particularly strong reputation among officeholders, which are appreciative of its ability to ‘come up with solutions to complex issues quickly and without fuss’. This solutions-oriented approach is rooted in high levels of technical competence and the firm has gained an excellent reputation over the years for its thought leadership and involvement at the vanguard of developments in the UK market. Stewart Perry, who remains chair of the R3 General Technical Committee (a trade association for UK insolvency and restructuring professionals), exemplifies this high level technical excellence, enabling him to provide ‘clear advice and practical solutions’, on both contentious and non-contentious matters. Contentious expert Kit Jarvis is appreciated for his ‘no nonsense approach’ and ability to provide ‘highly creative solutions to problems’.
