Co-founding partner, Maria leads the Property & Projects Practice Group of the firm. She focuses on providing bespoke advice to buyers seeking to invest in Malta through the use of structured asset plans, private equity and real estate funds, special purpose vehicles and trusts.
Maria’s team is capable of handling sizable transactions and private equity work in Malta and is regularly required to advise on some of the highest-value deals on the market. Specific to real estate work, the firm has handled investment projects, development initiatives on behalf of both domestic and international clients, buy-to-let projects, leasing matters, developments in the private rental and student accommodation sectors and boutique hotels and hostels mostly in the capital city, Valletta.
Maria has had vast experience in all aspects of transactional work. She has advised a range of high-profile clients on significant real estate acquisitions and disposals, as well as major developments. Maria has also set up the firm’s Project Advisory Services (PAS) team which handles all the aspects required to offer a specialized ‘buyer’ service, mainly through the use of in house or external expertise. PAS focuses on being the investor’s ‘voice on the ground’ and works on managing a project team usually encompassing corporate and commercial lawyers, notaries, designers, architects, estate agents, brokers, vendors and lessors.
Maria is a member of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners, the Society for Trusts & Estates Practitioners and the Chamber of Advocates and is also a registered trademark and patent attorney and an approved EPO European Patent Attorney.
Interesting & noteworthy projects include acting as lead partner and representing Shanghai Electric Power in Malta’s largest FDI investment; working on Prospects, the most recent capital market created by the Malta Stock Exchange & representing one of Malta’s major banks in the acquisition of their headquarters in Malta.
