Complementing its work for lenders, Van Doorne generates work from borrower-side clients such as private equity houses, real estate funds and Dutch/international investors, as well as public sector entities. One of the names to note at the firm is Stefan van Rossum, whose expertise includes leveraged finance, project finance and asset-based lending. He co-heads the practice with Angelique Thiele, who specialises in real estate and development finance. In a recent highlight, Thiele led the advice to prime German real estate fund Patriza on facilities obtained from ING and other lenders for the purpose of refinancing its existing residential portfolio and an office conversion. Leveraged finance expert Roel Botter is also recommended.
Known for project finance work related to real estate projects, Van Doorne’s experience also covers project development, construction, commercial and residential property transactions, as well as lease, tax, finance and refinance issues. The firm has a track record in transactional, advisory and disputes work in the area, as well as matters arising from zoning and environmental law. Another core strength for the practice is PPP and PFI deals. Angelique Thiele specialises in the field of real estate and development financing, and co-leads the team with Roel Botter, who focuses on public sector financings, particularly in the healthcare and education sectors.
Van Doorne‘s multidisciplinary financial regulatory team works closely with the dedicated fintech group to handle legal and regulatory issues facing entities operating in the paytech, insurtech and pensiontech spheres. In addition, on the financial institutions side, the group is noted for its expertise in alternative finance and securities, where it advises banks and other financial institutions on market access, ongoing regulatory obligations and enforcement. The firm also leverages the expertise of its fraud and white-collar crime team to advise its clients on anti-money laundering, market abuse and sanctions, and it also provides representation in investigations. Elsewhere, pensions and insurance-related matters are other core areas of focus. Vanessa Liem, Jan Leliveld, Roel Botter and Friso Foppes co-head the practice.
