Career
Virginie has over 20 years’ of experience in practicing business law, including 13 years within the investment fund industry. She has built up strong knowledge in alternative investment funds. Prior to joining AKD, she worked for another top tier law firm and for a well-known third party fund management company, both UCITS V compliant and AIFM authorised. As a result, she has developed a strong operational background and legal practice targeted to investment funds.
She advises and assists domestic and international clients in investment management matters covering in particular regulatory and corporate governance aspects throughout the entire fund life cycle, including initial structuring, creation, distribution and management of regulated investment funds such as Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs), Investment companies in risk capital (SICARs) and non-regulated investment vehicles (Reserved Alternative Investment Funds (RAIFs), Special Limited Partnerships (SCSp). She also assists and advises clients in implementing various investment strategies (real estate, private equity, hedge funds).
She assists our corporate and institutional clients in choosing the most appropriate investment fund structures and determining their key characteristics.
Furthermore, Virginie advises investment fund managers and local service providers such as fund administrators or depositaries in legal matters, procedures and operational matters linked to distribution, AIFM regulation, GDPR or AML/KYC regulation.

Having enlarged its practice in recent years, both through organic growth and lateral hires, AKD is increasingly well-equipped to handle a growing amount of work from fund managers, as well as through referrals from international law firms. The ‘pragmatic and commercial‘ Jevgeniy Nesch has extensive experience advising on the establishment of regulated and unregulated alternative investment funds, and is ‘particularly strong on transactions where German law concepts and intricacies are of importance’. Virginie Leroy co-heads the team alongside Nesch and has a well-rounded perspective on the fund life cycle, including ESG-related matters.
