Career

Taco van der Valk is a partner and lawyer at AKD. Although well-versed in general issues of transport and trade law, Taco mainly focuses on contentious and non-contentious shipping and transport matters, such as bills of lading, charter parties, cargo claims, ship’s agency.

Taco has specialist knowledge of complex transnational litigation, such as the limitation of shipowners’ liability, insolvency and arbitration. His work also covers the arrest of ships and aircraft and the international law of the sea.

In addition to his legal practice Taco was the secretary to the board of editors of the Dutch maritime and transport law journal, Schip en Schade, for almost twenty years. He also regularly lectures on maritime and transport law issues.

Education

Taco read law at Leiden University. In 1990 he started his professional career at Nauta Dutilh, and in October 2001 he joined AKD.
