Joost Houdijk is a lawyer at AKD who specializes in European and Competition law. Joost advises and litigates on cartels and abuse of a dominant position. He represents businesses and government organizations in proceedings before the European Commission, the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (‘ACM’), the Dutch courts and the European Court of Justice (‘ECJ’). Joost regularly assists companies with filing notifications for mergers and acquisitions with the European Commission and national competition authorities such as the ACM. In addition to competition law, Joost’s field of work also covers EU law on freedom of movement, EU transportation law and consumer protection law.

They see how he always aims to get the maximum out of a case based on dedication and creativity. Joost has published a large number of articles and annotations in many academic journals, as well as books and book contributions. In 2009 he was awarded his doctorate for a thesis on public interests in competition law. Joost is on the editorial team of the academic journal Le Droit des Affaires/Het Ondernemingsrecht (‘DAOR’) that covers the whole field of business and corporate law. He lectures at private educational institutions as well as universities, including Utrecht University and Radboud University Nijmegen.


Joost is a member of the International Bar Association (‘IBA’), the International Association of Young Lawyer (‘AIJA’), the Competition Law Association and the Dutch Association for (Civil) Procedural Law.
