Fergus Devine is a Partner in the Projects & Construction Department and Head of William Fry’s Energy & Natural Resources Group. Fergus advises local and international power, oil, gas and commodities companies on major projects, transactions and regulatory matters. He has particular expertise in advising new market participants, and those considering opportunities, in the energy sector in Ireland, including in relation to renewable energy and co-generation. Fergus also advises procuring authorities, bidders, financiers, contractors and operators in relation to PPPs in highly regulated sectors.
William Fry’s projects practice spans sectors including transport, energy, residential and commercial property, and data centres. The team advises some of Ireland’s most prominent developers on contract drafting, and also assists public sector bodies and private companies with the procurement process. Liam McCabe heads the team, while Fergus Devine focuses on the energy sector and Jarleth Heneghan leads on IT infrastructure and PPP matters. Bryanna Ryan advises both Irish and multinational clients on construction contract drafting, and Conor Linehan SC provides assistance on environmental matters.
William Fry acts for banks, project sponsors and public bodies in the energy sector, advising on the full range of issues involved in the development and construction of energy projects. Beyond project-related work, the practice is engaged in corporate transactions in this area, including M&A transactions involving energy assets, as well as power purchase agreements, with an increasing focus on advising data centres on these deals. The team is also active in the natural resources space through its links to Aughinish Alumina, advising the company on commercial and regulatory issues related to its production of alumina. Fergus Devine serves as practice head and is supported by the firm’s corporate, finance and projects teams.
