William Fry‘s transport practice continues to be prominent in the aviation sector, handling some of the largest and most complex matters in the Irish market. David Maughan and Mary Ward are well known for their work on the financing of aircraft, while Fergus Doorly and Craig Sowman advise on matters in this sector involving distressed companies, including restructurings. Elsewhere, the firm’s well-established projects and construction teams are frequently engaged on transport projects in the aviation, road and rail sectors; they also handle large projects which include transport infrastructure, such as residential developments. Jarleth Heneghan and Liam McCabe are the key figures in this area. In addition, the practice acts for a number of ride-hailing apps, providing advice on data protection and other regulatory issues.
William Fry remains a force in aviation finance with a growing team and a particularly strong record in lender-side engagements. It continues to be active in aircraft portfolio financings and securitisations and has handled key mandates in major insolvency situations, including being engaged as counsel to the examiner of Norwegian Air. The team is also at the forefront of ESG-compliant loans and debt financings. David Maughan has some 20-years experience in aircraft financings and is especially known for representing financial institutions in refinancing Chinese lessor portfolios. Mary Ward is becoming an established name in the aviation finance field, representing lessors, lessees and lenders on aircraft transactions. Fergus Doorly provides additional restructuring and insolvency expertise in this area.
William Fry has fine traditions in ECM and straight DCM transactions, and is building its name in structured finance and securitisation. The firm is widely recognised for its roles as counsel to issuers and underwriters in domestic equity offerings, most notably in the technology, real estate and financial services sectors. It advised on the only listing on Euronext Dublin in 2020 when it represented Trust Stamp on its introduction to the Euronext Growth Market. Since joining in May 2020, Matthew Cahill has helped build the firm’s standing in DCM, structured finance and securitisation. He is part of a team that also includes prominent ECM specialists Myra Garrett and Mark Talbot, along with DCM expert David Maughan.
