Position

Partner Catherine Longeval specialises in litigation before the Belgian courts and advises clients on a wide range of issues, including life sciences law. Her expertise in this area covers laws governing medicines, biotech products, medical devices, cosmetics and food supplements, among other aspects.

She also specialises in unfair market practices, distribution law, product liability, employment law and general commercial law.

She regularly lectures and writes on life sciences regulatory matters and procedural law matters. She often speaks at conferences.

Career

Catherine began her professional career in October 1989. Prior to joining Van Bael & Bellis in 1994, she worked as an associate with a leading Brussels law firm. 

Catherine is a member of: CEPINA (Belgian Centre for Mediation and Arbitration); the Brussels Pharma Law Group; and the European Employment Lawyers Association.

Its client base of leading multinational life sciences companies also turn to the team for a range of EU and Belgian regulatory advice. Catherine Longeval recently advised the European arm of a US biotech company on the restructuring of its distribution chain. David Hull and counsel Michael Clancy represented two parties in a landmark case before the EU Court of Justice concerning reverse payment patent settlements. Peter L’Ecluse is another key contact.
