Career

Guillermo San Pedro is a lawyer of the Corporate Department in the Madrid office of Uría Menéndez. He joined the firm in 1997 and was made partner in 2008. From September 2001 to March 2002, Guillermo participated in an exchange programme, temporarily joining the New York office of the U.S firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

His practice focuses on the advice in any type of transaction in the insurance and reinsurance market, either domestic and cross border (M&A transactions involving insurance companies, bancassurance joint ventures, portfolio assignments, etc.), and in regulatory matters, including distribution activities of insurance and reinsurance. He has also considerable experience in corporate matters and general M&A.

The firm advised on the bancassurance agreements signed by Banco Santander with Aegon, after the acquisition of Banco Popular by Banco Santander, and assisted Ibercaja Banco with the acquisition of Reale’s shareholding stake in non-life insurer CAI Seguros Generales. In another highlight, the department is advising Liberty Mutual on a restructuring of the group’s activities in Spain, Ireland and Portugal, which includes a cross-border merger.
