Uría Menéndez > Firm Profile
Uría Menéndez was founded as a commercial law firm in Madrid in the 1940s by Rodrigo Uría and Aurelio Menéndez, two of the most important figures in Spanish law. From that beginning, we have grown to provide legal advice on all areas of business law and now more than 500 lawyers and support staff work in our Madrid office. Our extensive resources allow us to create tailor-made teams of lawyers designed for each client and each matter based on the complexity of the issues at hand and the sector in which our clients operate. This approach ensures integrated, multidisciplinary assistance of the highest calibre.
The Beijing Office: The firm has for years been building a solid relationship with the government of the People’s Republic of China (Uría Menéndez is the only private institution in the world to which all China Lawyers Association, with the support and approval of the Ministry of Justice, has entrusted the international training of Chinese lawyers), the business community (the Chinese International Chamber of Commerce has sought the firm’s assistance for its members to develop foreign investment in Europe and Latin America), and the academia (Uría Menéndez is part of the consortium that operates the China-EU School of Law, China’s first public-private school of law, and coordinates the training of Chinese lawyers on outbound investments). Since its inauguration in 2009, Uría Menéndez’s Beijing office has focused on assisting Chinese clients with their outbound investments in Spain, Portugal and particularly, Latin America, where the firm has built an unparalleled transaction record and exceptional execution capabilities, market knowledge and relationships with the local business and legal community.
The Beijing office also helps inbound investors by advising them on Spanish, Portuguese, EU and Chinese law, in the latter case, working seamlessly with a variety of premier Chinese law firms with which Uría Menéndez has developed close working relationships throughout the years.
