Career

Mario Barros is a lawyer in the Madrid office of Uría Menéndez. He became a partner in 2008. Mario joined the firm in 1996 and specialises in advising on all areas of employment and social security law.

Mario has extensive experience in advising Spanish and foreign companies on the drafting and termination of employment contracts, particularly those of senior executives, as well as on transactional labour law issues (mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructurings) and outsourcing.

Mario is frequently asked to advise on workforce restructurings and collective bargaining agreements.

A substantial part of Mario’s practice involves advising clients on employment disputes, representing them in judicial and extrajudicial settlement proceedings. He also provides advice on remuneration systems, pensions, social benefits, etc.

The employment practice at Uría Menéndez has had a key role in the host of matters flooding the Spanish market during the pandemic, leading advice in major litigation, restructurings and mass redundancies. On the disputes side, one of the standout cases through 2020 and 2021 saw practice head Mario Barros representing travel technology company Amadeus in a precedent-setting challenge to an employee dismissal that went to the Supreme Court.
