Insurance and Reinsurance, Litigation and Dispute Resolution

Sophie Bourgois focuses her practice mainly on four core areas: international dispute settlement, private international law, public international law, and insurance law. She regularly assists clients (including foreign States and international organisations) in court and arbitration proceedings (ICC, CEPANI, Ad Hoc arbitration, etc.), and in cross-border disputes. Sophie has also been called upon to act as secretary to arbitral tribunals and has recently been appointed as sole arbitrator. Furthermore, she has a strong interest in alternative dispute resolution processes and has been an accredited mediator since 2014. Sophie handles litigation matters in a broad variety of fields, including construction law, insurance and reinsurance law, M&A, contract and commercial law, etc. Besides her general litigation and arbitration practice, she advises on and handles cases involving questions regarding private and public international law, such as jurisdictional immunities, interpretation and application of treaties and conflict of laws. Finally, Sophie has a specific expertise in insurance law: she handles litigation and arbitration cases relating to major insurance losses (e.g. under property, liability and credit insurance, financial institution bonds, reinsurance contract) and advises on the distribution of insurance, contracts, and declaration of losses.
