Pieter WoutersStibbe

Stibbe has a strong focus on contentious insolvency and restructuring proceedings, representing debtors, lenders, directors, and shareholders in complex, often cross-border liquidations, judicial organisations, formal insolvencies, and associated liquidation. The team works closely with the firm’s financing, tax, employment, and dispute resolution practices, allowing for an integrated approach to business-critical matters. The practice is headed up by Paul Van der Putten, who focuses on complex liquidation issues, as well as drafting insolvency protection contracts, with senior associate Pieter Wouters also playing a key role, while co-head Oliver Stevens focuses on creditor-side matters, including debt recovery and cross-border restructurings.

‘Expert knowledge combined with a pragmatic approach’ makes Stibbe a firm of choice for a broad roster of Belgian entities, blue-chip multinationals, and financial institutions seeking representation in high-stakes cases. The sizeable team handles a wealth of commercial disputes, arbitrations, and ADR proceedings, including complex, multi-party litigation. Practice head Hans Van Bavel is highly experienced in company-related criminal work, regularly appearing before the Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights. Oliver Stevens is highly regarded for his far-reaching practice, encompassing banking and finance litigation, (re)insurance litigation and tort litigation. Nicolas Résimont stands out for his deep capabilities as both counsel and arbitrator, while Pieter Wouters focuses predominately on insolvency and liquidation procedures. Sophie Bourgois and Elisabeth Bayens are noted for their respective knowledge of damages and procedural work.
