Dr iur Christian Herbst
Christian Herbst has more than 30 years of professional experience. His expertise covers M&A, venture capital, public takeover and corporate finance transactions. Christian has been lecturing ‘International Mergers & Acquisitions’ at the Vienna University of Economics and Business for more than 15 years. He served co-chair of the IBA Corporate/M&A law committee (2015-2016).
Over the years, Christian has built strong relationships with international blue-chip clients including America Movil, Starwood Capital, Telenor and Apollo Capital and EQT. Christian has recently advised CRH on the EUR 1.64 billion sale of its European distribution business to Blackstone (2019), Ericsson on the acquisition of German Kathrein SE’s antenna and filters division (2019) and Toyota Motor Europe on the acquisition of Toyota Frey Austria (2019).
On public M&A, Christian advised listed BUWOG on the EUR 3.4 billion public takeover by German Vonovia (2018) and Starwood capital on two partial public offers of Immofinanz and CA Immo and the acquisition of a controlling stake in listed CA Immo for 0.76 billion (2018). Christian advised Carso Telecom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the América Móvil group (AMX), in its successful public takeover offer, exceeding EUR 1.4 billion for shares in Telekom Austria (2013), Rasperia Trading Ltd on its exercise of a call option to purchase shares and increase its shareholding in Vienna Stock Exchange-listed STRABAG SE to a blocking minority of 25 percent and one share (2014) and Kansai Paint Co Ltd. (Osaka, Japan), on the EUR 572 million acquisition of the Helios Coatings Group (2016).
