Bernd’s practice focuses on energy (electricity, oil & gas), environment and natural resources (EIA, water law, waste management law, forestry law, air protection, environmental liability and remediation issues, etc.). He represents clients in power plant permitting proceedings. Bernd is advisor to energy utilities, financial investors, network operators and energy traders. He also represents energy utilities in EIA and other plant approval proceedings. Bernd reularly advises on major energy infrastructure projects such as gas pipelines (Nabucco, Southstream), high voltage power lines and heating lines. With Schoenherr representing various governmental departments (e.g. the Austrian Ministry of Environment), Bernd is also involved in legislative procedures making proposals for the amendment of environmental and energy law provisions. He regularly advises the European Commission in energy/regulatory matters. Bernd is an expert in providing transactional (M&A) advice in the field of energy and environmental law.
