Diarmaid is a partner in the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Department advising a range of clients in different industry sectors on a broad range of corporate and commercial legal matters. He also leads the firm’s competition law and non-contentious IP practices.
On the transactional side, Diarmaid has acted for a number of clients in the agri-food, life sciences, technology and media sectors on M&A transactions, corporate group restructurings, joint ventures and equity fundraisings. His broader commercial law practice covers intellectual property licensing, outsourcing, competition law, commercial contracts and data protection. Particular areas of expertise include State-funded multilateral research collaborative projects between the academic and industry sectors where he is an established advisor on knowledge transfer interactions between industry and the research performing community in Ireland.
Diarmaid leads Ronan Daly Jermyn’s Brexit team, a cross-departmental team that advises clients on how to prepare for the impact of Brexit and seizing the opportunities it may bring.
Prior to joining Ronan Daly Jermyn, Diarmaid worked with a “magic circle” law firm in its London and Brussels offices where he advised on merger notifications before the European Commission and the UK Office of Fair Trading (now the Competition and Markets Authority) as well as on cartel and abuse of dominance cases.

Ronan Daly Jermyn‘s intellectual property practice is known for its work advising universities on IP matters related to their research, particularly IP forged through collaborative research arrangements with the private sector. The team’s client base in this area includes many of the most high-profile Irish universities. The group also advises private sector clients on contentious and non-contentious IP matters. The practice is jointly lead by Diarmaid Gavin, who focuses on non-contentious work, and litigator Darryl Broderick. Corporate partner JP Gilmartin assists with the IP aspects of transactions.

Merger control is a key area of activity for the Cork-based competition team at Ronan Daly Jermyn, which also has considerable expertise in advising public bodies and educational institutions on state aid, particularly in relation to state-funded research, and procurement issues.
