Career
Martín J. Silván Gutiérrez-Cortines graduated in Law from the University of Cantabria in 1990, and has been a practising lawyer since 1993. Certified Specialist in Environmental Law from the University of Deusto in 1994, he has been working on environmental matters for more than 20 years.
In the 1990s he worked in the public sector as a technical legal assistant in the Directorate General of Environment and Territorial Planning of the Regional Government of Cantabria, until he started working in the private sector in 1999.
In relation to business activity, he has held different positions, including Director of Industry and Innovation of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Cantabria, until 2013; President of the Cantabrian Federation of Entrepreneurs in the Metal and Related Industries (Cantabria Metal) until 2015, and President of the Cantabrian Association of Energy Producers of Cantabria (APEC) until June 2018.
Silván Gutiérrez also collaborates with conservationist associations such as Greenpeace and the Nature and Man Foundation, providing them with the necessary legal assistance.
He also holds the title of University Expert in Innovation Management and Technology-Based Initiatives (UNED 2009) and has completed the Executive Programme in Business Strategy and Management (PEGE) at ESADE Business School & Deusto Business School (2011).
He has lectured in Environmental Law in several courses taught at the Escuela de Organización Industrial (EOI) and the Escuela Superior de Negocios (ESNE), as well as a speaker in the Environmental Room of the University of Cantabria, and speaker in several forums and universities for more than 15 years.
He joined ONTIER in 2018 as a counsel in the Santander office, to also develop the new Environmental Law department implemented in the firm.
