Matheson‘s strength in financial matters enables it to advise clients on the financing, acquisition, and sale of assets linked to projects and PPP. Furthermore, the practice is experienced in advising clients on delivering infrastructure projects across areas as varied as broadband, renewable energy, and real estate. The practice is headed by Garret Farrelly, who specialises in the financing of energy projects. Rhona Henry heads the firm’s construction and engineering team and is also active in projects work and Nicola Dunleavy heads the environmental and planning group. Peter O’Brien left the firm.

Matheson has particular expertise in international finance, acting for overseas financial institutions as well as leading Irish banks. The team advises on structured finance, project finance, securitisation and loan sales, among other areas, with significant strength in aviation and transport finance. Patrick Molloy leads the team; the ‘pragmatic‘ Michael Hastings is particularly experienced in real estate finance transactions, and counts many large Irish property investors and developers among his clients; Donal O’Donovan is noted for his ‘excellent knowledge of legal matters; David O’Mahony acts for a range of banks, financial institutions and corporate borrowers; and Alma Campion specialises in acquisition, property and development finance. Laura Gleeson departed for an in-house role and Peter O’Brien left for Dentons.
