Marc heads the Banking & Finance Practice Group in Brussels. He is also the Managing Partner of Loyens & Loeff Belgium.


Marc has considerable experience in project finance, secured financing, derivatives, clearing and settlement, financial restructuring and securitisation. He is particularly renowned for his expertise in Euroclear related matters, asset-based financing and the financing of large renewable energy projects. His clients include both investors and lenders. Marc is a regular speaker at conferences on cross-border financing topics, and has written various articles on finance related subjects. He also acts as Belgian counsel to ISDA and the banking associations constituting a German Banking Industry Committee (Die Deutsche Kreditwirtschaft) in relation to industry opinions on netting and collateral. He is mentioned in his field of expertise as leading expert by Chambers & Partners (Global & Europe), Legal 500 EMEA and IFLR 1000. Marc has been a member of the Brussels Bar since 2001.

Marc holds a Law degree from the KU Leuven (Belgium, 1989), a Postgraduate degree in Economic Law from the Université catholique de Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, 1990), and a M.A. in International Studies, Law and Conflict Management from the Johns Hopkins University (Bologna, Italy, 1991 and Washington D.C., United-States, 1992).

The insolvency and restructuring department at Loyens & Loeff specialises in financial reorganisations, with a cross-practice set-up drawing on the firm’s aviation, employment and real estate know-how. Well versed in transactional work and litigation relating to companies experiencing financial distress, the team has regularly been instructed following the introduction of the Belgian government’s Covid-19 response measures.
