Litigation and Dispute Resolution
Ian is a partner in our Litigation and Dispute Resolution department.
He advises domestic and international businesses in complex litigation and regulatory investigations and inquires. He is accustomed to acting in strategically important cases before the higher courts in Ireland and England, having practised in London for seven years prior to re-joining LK Shields.
Ian also advises clients in mediation, adjudication and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. He is a strong advocate of these often more business-friendly means of disposing of disputes.
LK Shields Solicitors LLP acts for a wide range of parties in the construction space, including developers, contractors and sub-contractors. The team advises on key documentation in the construction process, including design, supply, construction and installation contracts for a range of projects. In addition, the team assists corporations with the construction and fit out of office space. The practice also handles breach of contract disputes, representing developers and suppliers. The team is led by Richard Curran, and is supported by Jamie Ritchie and litigator Ian Lavelle.
LK Shields Solicitors LLP has made significant inroads into the wider insurance market, building on its history in solicitors’ professional indemnity cases, for which insurance disputes head Shane Neville is a prominent figure. Having leveraged the London connections of Ian Lavelle, who previously practised there for many years, the firm has achieved additional prominence in medical malpractice and construction. Eamon Jones is another senior insurance disputes specialist with extensive experience. Michael Kavanagh left the firm in 2021.
